Protecting your Chest with the Armor!

Mentor Wellington Scott led the Spiritual development groups discussing the different parts of the breast plate of armour providing an introduction to the groups next couple of sessions. The boys were able to identify what it means to wear the breast plate and the significance of it all.

Mentor Bruce Bean covered the second session for the health & fitness group.  The lesson was on being healthy and what can of exercises the young men can do.
Thanks to Ms.Yarborough for bringing the mentors an great healthy meal. She made turkey wraps, muffins, apples and tangerines. She also bought Orange juice. It was more than enough for the boys and mentors alike.

Warrior Passage hopes everyone had a Great Christmas Holiday and we are also looking forward to the New Year.  Next warrior passage meeting will be Jan 7th 2012.

Warrior Passage gets in shape!

At the last warrior passage meeting, the mentees continued to discuss the movie they watched last time.  After that discussion was complete, the mentor went into the real reason for Christmas.  The mentees also got to tell what Christmas means to them.

After the all the discussions, it was time to leave the classroom and break a sweat.  The mentees were divided into five groups and they were given exercises to do over the holiday break.  A handout with the exercise instructions was also distributed.  There were 18 mentees in attendance.

Next Warrior Passage meeting will be Dec 17th at Body of Christ Church.

Warrior Passage at the Movies!

Last Warrior Passage meeting the young men snacked on some popcorn and watched a movie entitled, "The Prince of Egypt".  To give a summery of the movie:

"This is the extraordinary tale of two brothers named Moses and Ramses, one born of royal blood, and one an orphan with a secret past. Growing up the best of friends, they share a strong bond of free-spirited youth and good-natured rivalry. But the truth will ultimately set them at odds, as one becomes the ruler of the most powerful empire on earth, and the other the chosen leader of his people! Their final confrontation will forever change their lives and the world."

After the movie, there was a Question and Answer session to discuss the events in the movie versus the events in the Bible.  Next Warrior Passage Meeting will be Dec 3rd, 10:00am at Body of Christ Church.

Ten Commandments vs. Man's Laws

Judge Vince Rozier from the Wake County Court House lead a very exciting and engaging warrior passage meeting.   The subject was the Ten Commandments vs. the current laws of the government.  The mentees were first challenged to see if they know all the commandments.  Then, they had to figure out which commandments are laws of the government today.

The next lesson was interactive, requiring the mentees role play in certain situations.  The main event was a mock court room with an judge, lawyers, and jury.  The final session was Q & A which used the final 20 minutes of the meeting.  We thank Judge Rozier for guest speaking to our group.

Next Meeting will be on November 19th at 10:00am.  We will be watching a movie, and discussing the main biblical topics highlighted in the movie.

Warrior Passage gets Educated with NC A&T!!!

The Warrior Passage was the pride guest of the chancellor at North Carolina A & T State University on the Annual College Day Experience on October 8th 2011.  The young men received a tour of the campus, had lunch in the dining hall, and attended a weekend football game.  This is the Warrior Passage's second trip to the university.  Proud A & T alumni Reverend William Boykin summed up the trip perfectly:

"On behalf of Senior Pastor and Founder, Kelvin Redmond, the Body of Christ Church family and my Alma Mater, North Carolina A&T State University, please accept our sincere gratitude for your roles in making this educational enrichment trip happen for our youth.  Young adults can never get enough exposure to opportunities such as this one that can impact their lives in such a positive way.  My wife and I briefly saw our youth following the football game and it was readily apparent that they truly enjoyed their day on A&T's campus.

Again, we thank you and all the other generous adults for your willingness to mentor and chaperone our youth.  May God continue to bless and keep you in His divine grace and mercy.  You are appreciated!
Sincerely yours,

Reverend William Boykin, Senior"
Executive Pastor of the BOCC

Reverend Boykin thanks all mentors in the Warrior Passage program, keep up the good work!

Warrior Passage Opening Lesson 2011-

Warrior Passage started this season on September 10th, 2011 at 10:00am.  All lessons this year will be held at the Body of Christ Church Multi-Purpose Room.  We had two lessons on Saturday and we also had parent orientation.

Spiritual Development focused on  'Introduction to the Bible'. They discussed what was in the bible, who wrote the bible and why its important to us.  Then they broke up into teams and had a quiz, with each team competing against one another.  The lesson was facilitated by Thurman Ross.

Character Development expanded on overview of what the correct character is and how to achieve it.  The lesson was broken down into the six pillars of character.  They talked about how important it is to use Jesus as a benchmark/model.  This lesson was taught by Kawyn Armstrong.  There were 11 young men total in attendance along with three young men that have completely graduated the program.  They will help teach some of the lessons and share their knowledge from the previous years.

Next lesson will be Saturday, September 24th at 10:00am.  Remember to subscribe to the blog by using the buttons on the right to get automatic updates.  Also check www.boccwarriorpassage.org to check the calendar for events and updates pictures and videos of lessons.  Thanks

2011-12 Session Of Warrior Passage Program Begins in September

Graduation Day on May 7 was memorable for the warriors, mentors and parents. Armor Of God Lessons Continue

Fourteen (14) boys attended Saturday's Warrior Passage meeting. The boys continued their lessons on the Full Armor of God, taken from Ephesians 6:14. They also had an impromptu session on money management and credit as a lead-in to lessons the Life and Work Skills mentors group will begin presenting at our next meeting. Please review with your boy want he learned on Saturday.

>Because there is a fifth Saturday in the month of January, there will be a mini-break for Warrior Passage. Our next meeting won't be until Saturday, Feb. 12 @ 10 a.m. at the Dream Center.

>We will soon place orders for Warrior Passage T-shirts for those who have paid. We hope to have the T-shirts long before our graduation ceremony on May 7, the day before Mother's Day. All boys will be asked to wear their Warrior T-shirts at the graduation.

>Warrior Passage's weekly tutoring session will be held on this Tuesday (Jan. 25) from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. at Body of Christ Church for boys needing help with school work. Please be on time and remember that we are on the second floor of the church building, not the Dream Center.

Armor of God, Exercise Main Topics of Warrior Passage Meeting

Twelve (12) boys braved the cold to attend Saturday's Warrior Passage meeting. The Spiritual Development mentors kicked off their lessons on the Full Armor of God --- the resources God provides us to keep from falling prey to Satan and his tricks. Afterward, the boy did a physical workout that included running, push-ups, sit-ups, and working out on exercise equipment at the Dream Center. A special pizza snack was given to the boys.
